This song was written from a social and political view. The man-made revivals and rivals I refer to are religion based. Life is not an easy task, especially because we humans have this little suffering maker called, ‘the ego.’ The easiest job in the world is that of a critic--in a more perfect world, the easiest job would be replaced with compassion, empathy and forgiveness. For, forgiveness is the only way to love. It is sad that we cannot stop working our arduous 10 hour days to pay for all of the debt and possessions we all so desire. We are enslaved because our ego wants us to always want more, be better in other’s eyes and revel in success. What is the real benefit of success anyway? Money is wonderful if it buys you freedom--but it often is our ladder to false empowerment.
